KUMBH MELA PRAYAGRAJ

The dates of Kumbh Mela 2025 are set for Prayagraj, India, along the banks of the Yamuna and Ganges rivers, from January 13 to February 26, 2025.

The world’s largest religious assembly is called Kumbh Mela. It is held in four Indian cities every three years: Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain. Millions of Hindus from all over the world congregate to these sites during this occasion in an effort to atone for their sins by taking a ceremonial dip in the holy water. Many tents are erected along the riverbanks to house the pilgrims during this momentous spiritual assembly.

The legendary Sarasvati River, the Ganges, Yamuna, and Triveni Sangam, in Prayagraj (Allahabad), will be the site of the 2025 Kumbh Mela from January 13 to February 26.

Date of start: January 13, Monday

End date: February 26, Wednesday

Location: Prayagraj, along the Ganges and Yamuna rivers

Time frame: forty-four days

The full Kumbh Mela and the half Kumbh Mela are the two varieties of Kumbh Mela. Every twelve years is when the full Kumbh occurs, and every six years is when the partial Kumbh Mela occurs.

There will be a complete Kumbh Mela in 2025. Nearly 120 million people attended the most recent complete Kumbh Mela in 2013, making it the world’s largest religious gathering.

Why is there a 12-year gap between Kumbh Melas?

Every twelve years, the entire Kumbh Mela is held to commemorate the completion of one revolution of the planet Jupiter.

In Hindu astrology, Jupiter is seen as a symbol of wisdom. Jupiter is said to be at its most auspicious when it completes a revolution, and it is regarded extremely fortunate to bathe in holy water during this time.

How Are the Kumbh Mela Dates Decided?

The lunar calendar, as well as Jupiter and the moon’s positions, are used to determine the date of the Kumbh Mela.

The eleventh month of the Hindu calendar (Magh), which is January or February, is when Prayagraj hosts the Kumbh Mela. In particular, the following circumstances surround the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela:

The sun and moon are in Capricorn, and Jupiter is in Aries.

Alternatively, when the sun is in Capricorn and Jupiter is in Taurus.

These are the most opportune astrological conditions to perform the Kumbh Mela.
